Oh Canadians servers get paid significantly better. They make the regular minimum wage (generally the same for all workers, depends on the province) ranging from $11.06-$15.00 (depends on the province) an hour plus tips. My understanding is in the US it’s a waaaayyy lower minimum wage for servers plus a tip, like

I’m Canadian. I agree that 20% is excessive here, where servers get paid better than those in the US (as far as I know).

Jesus H. Christ, she’s 82 years old. You’re not going to have to put up with her much longer so fucking chill.

“I know that’s the only way she’d ever get on camera at the Oscars, but that’s no reason to punish us”

I would argue that all 3 of those women get called out/have gotten called out for their white privilege and racist comments all the time in a way that I don’t see Maher get called out by anyone. I would argue that it’s less a white liberal issue and more of a white liberal guy issue. It’s the same with Bernie, god

I’m Canadian (Montreal). From my perspective, he’s more centre than left. I think he’s good, but he could be better.

Like...?

skim heads

Ya, lactose tolerance just means at least some of your ancestors herded cows and sheep and shit. Just imagine how impoverished your life must be that a tummy enzyme that lets you drink something for baby mammals is, in your mind, something you have going for you.

also, skim.

It would be a bold move, but I would love it if for that episode they had continuity between each skit and just made the entire show like a super dysfunctional West Wing.

Trudeau is definitely much more conservative than I am (in terms of economics and the environment), so I have my problems with his policies, but I like him overall. Part of it is that the fact that I think he genuinely has Canadians’ best interests at heart, and is an empathetic, progressive guy, and that continues to

I live in small prairie town too and I feel like casual racism and hatred has gotten so much worse here in the past year. And even more so since Trump was elected.

people have that view because it’s still head and shoulders above the USA when it comes to this shit. there is no where on earth that’s free of racists etc, however some places are much better to live than others. i’ve lived in both Canada and the USA and going back to the USA would be tantamount to being suicidal,

Yup. In the same way you have a higher risk of rat infestations when your neighbours are filthy hoarders, it’s hard to keep your house in order when dysfunction reigns next door.

It’s is interesting to watch people in the US freaking out about some of the shitty stuff Trump is doing, and realizing Harper totally beat him to the punch on a lot of them (like gagging government scientists, destroying scientific data, backing out of climate change agreements, appointing laughably incompetent

While true, don’t be too hasty to not blame Trump and his ilk either.

What a tragedy. When we lived in Canada our French family friends moved to Quebec and it is such a gorgeous city. Old Quebec is beautiful. The city is incredibly peaceful, and can go a year without a single murder, though sometimes they done have 1, maybe 2.
