Some of the issues are Sony’s fault though. Square Enix can only work with the features provided by the platform. Sony didn’t implement any cross-gen save functionality, leaving it up to developers to create their own workarounds. Sony didn’t make the upgrade process as seamless as it could be.

Yeah it’s weird, but it’s the only way they can do it. The system software doesn’t allow games to access files from other games, and it treats the PS5 version as a separate game to the PS4 version. So the only way to do it is to use an external cloud service.

You don’t need to keep the PS4 installed if you’re only transferring one save though. I think that’s probably what most people will do.

I wrote up an FAQ on Reddit

I think it means you can transfer multiple saves, but you have to do the whole process for each one. So you'd have to upload one, download it in the PS5 version, upload the next, etc.

I think one of the reasons PS5 games don't share trophy lists with their PS4 versions is that PS5 trophies support progression tracking (e.g. you can see you have collected 3 out of 4 items you need for a trophy). So if they shared trophies that would have to be disabled.

It's cloud storage, but not the PS+ cloud storage. You don't need PS+ to use it, it's a separate thing.

there is no “format” for game saves, every game has a different format as what they save is different.”

Oddworld Soulstorm isn’t really a remake. I guess you could call it a re-imagining of Abe’s Exoddus because it uses some plot elements from it, but the overall story is different, all the levels are different, the gameplay is different.

Interesting. I heard about the mobile one, but never heard they were planning a single player version.

If they ever do it, an offline version of XIV is a long way off. I doubt they’d do it while it’s still a very popular game.

I disagree.

By cheating, you’re taking the joy of money away from Niantic’s executives. They would be so much happier with those few dollars you would have spent on incubators, the millions they already have are not enough.

It would be nice if they could batch them up. So if you’ve claimed all the current PS+ games in the space of a few minutes, it could send you one email listing all the stuff you claimed instead of a separate email for each one.

Never played the Yakuza series, but I hope it does well as a turn based RPG.

For me, the issue with waiting until the entire series is finished and playing it all in one go is that I’d probably get really fatigued treating it as one big 150+ hour game. I prefer taking it in more manageable pieces.

because why on earth would they stop doing something they’re good at

I’ve never really had this problem. It’s very rare for me to buy a game that I’m not going to play. You just have to avoid the temptation of buying things just because they’re on sale. I always stop and think “Am I actually going to play this in the immediate future?”, and if not, I don’t buy it.

Yeah navigating menus is a bit awkward. But on PS4/5 you can use the touchpad as a mouse. I also have a wireless keyboard/touchpad I use for typing and can use it to navigate menus if I need to. Usually I don’t need to though.

Most console players use keyboards for typing. I have a little wireless keyboard which I use for text, but I play with the controller.
