Psychopomps: Sleep and Death

I remember a woman on the radio speaking about her own personal desperation to see a female president in her lifetime being a driving force in her support of Hillary. Older feminists remember a time when sexism was more pervasive, more severe, and more overt than it is now, and having a woman take the Oval Office is

I’d heard of it but it kind of fell by the wayside—I’ll be trying it out for sure now that I remember what it’s called!

starred for the gif, Erased is the best show this season

That is savage. Love it

And he even used an emoji! In a handwritten letter!

I agree, this whole series sucked. The art and animation wasn’t all that spectacular, the characters were cardboard cutouts of the average ‘quirky’ stereotype with hackneyed sob stories attached, and worst of all, the show took itself too seriously to address such obvious flaws and instead indulged in confusing asides

Apparently the anime series is based on a live-action murder mystery drama which starts out with 2 other 2-episode arcs before getting into the main plot. I’ve been following both so far. The live-action series has been satisfying because it’s quite similar to the British murder mysteries that I am also fond of, so I

Say what you will about Eat ‘n Park, but the Smiley cookies were my childhood (though the mascot is creepy af)

Hmm maybe it’s a shounen trope now that I think about it, but over the years I’ve seen it in: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood; Tiger & Bunny, Beelzebub, and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (nameless character). These are just off the top of my head though.

Honestly I wonder about that. It’s nice that there’s more pressure to be held accountable for drug-related offences, but did she deserve to have her accomplishments erased and her career and reputation ruined? I’m not sure whether this overreaction is better than the selective leniency in American enforcement of drug

I know nothing about Japanese culture and society but from the Japanese media that I do consume I expected as much. Basically representation seems limited to a quirky effeminate side character whose schtick is hanging with girls and propositioning the normal-acting straight men, who either respond with comic violence

Finally! Time to make my college degree useful! *ahem* It’s sort of a mystery as to why our relatively hairless bodies have pubic hair, but explanations range from preventing chafing during regular movement/sex, temperature regulation, and pheromone retention (I love me some crotch pheromones).

I have questions about this video and I’m not sure it would be polite for me to ask them.

Was it that documentary by Frontline for PBS? Because after watching that I just wanted to lie down and not do anything for the rest of the day (I mean I always want to but that time more than usual) :(

I’m going to be that person and point out that we care more about how a suicide bomber looks like one of our Western celebrities than the fact that he blew up a hospital.

What did people think of the first Garo animated series? I watched it and read the reviews, everyone seems to be in love with it but I just found it so meh for some reason.

I keep giant silk moths as a hobby. They’re handsized and quite showy, so they occasionally draw attention when I allow distant passersby to watch me release them. But I’d be lying if I said I don’t amuse myself by startling people when I toss what looks like a dead leaf in the air and it transforms into a furry

I thought about that too, though I personally marked that down as a moral argument. But then, ideas of what is good/bad/worst do inform policy, and you’re the lawyer anyway. :)

Figures. :/

(Possibly stupid question) Just curious, what are political reasons for opposing the death penalty? I’ve always thought of keeping/abolishing the death penalty as being primarily rooted in moral arguments, is all.
