The first time a game soundtrack really grabbed me and elevated my mood while playing to a completely different level? Well, it depends partially on just how high we’re setting the bar.

I had no idea Stewart Copeland composed the music for Spyro, what a crazy world we live in!

Interesting article. Could you do one for Sony?

I dunno why it’s so hard to just pick and start playing something.

Drew here, I am a volunteer community manager for Legend of Dragoon as well as an archivist. LoD was indeed flawed due to Sony’s combination of sheer ambition and inexperience at the time, but the music certainly did shine through as you point out. Most game soundtracks are made up of songs and ambience that are meant

If nothing else this really puts into perspective how terrible launch lineups usually are. Only a few of the games listed from past generations hold up or are even remembered.

I think your feelings are completely justified. I think you’re making it worse for yourself by giving in to the guilt.

Considering the Navy navigates vast oceans and rough seas, you’d think they’d be better at handling streams.

It’s such a shame that the end of this patch seems like the end to compelling villains in XIV for the foreseeable future. Zenos is not an interesting or compelling villain. He’s something your edgy 13 year old self would enjoy. I hope they just kill him off (preferably of screen) before 6.0, but I doubt it

Having a platinum trophy be obtainable and reasonable should be the expectation instead of some mark of servitude to a game.

Thank you for sharing this - this is great work music (imo)

Amazing anecdote. Yeah, I remember getting a CD player in your car being a Big Deal. My best friend’s parents got her a Dodge Neon with one and it was all very futuristic.

I mean, it was every parent’s dream for their kid to pull off an ultra combo with Orchid.

different strokes then. I like upbeat psychedelic music quite a bit when tripping. it energizes my thoughts.

As a 46-year old gamer, who’s eyes are starting to fail, small text is the bane of nearly every game i play anymore. I have to use the Xbox’s built in screen magnifier on some things (Borderlands 3 was a big offender on that). I know i’m not the target demographic, but holy shit, just because it’s crisper in 4K,

That entire year was insane for all things JRPG on PSX.

ActRaiser 2 without question. They removed the best part of the first game and just made another side-scrolling platformer.

I’d be pissed if I passed Wild Arms for that, wild Arms is a damn masterpiece. HOWEVER, I too HATED Beyond the Beyond but went back to it a few years ago, which was well over two decades after first playing it. It is actually decent, I can’t explain it but it just is.

Beyond the Beyond. A top down old school JRPG, what could go wrong? Everything, my friend. Everything could go wrong. That was the game that made me realize that not every rpg was a banger. And I passed up Wild Arms for it at the time.

I just listened to 40 minutes of that OST and it’s really lively, pretty interesting.

Thanks for tellin’ me about proper Hawaii nomenclature! Noted.
