Physical acting is one of the most difficult things you can do. Have you recognized Doug Jones in any of his many roles without dialogue? No, you haven’t, because he’s damn good at what he does. Same for Mayhew. The way he moved informed the character. And I highly doubt you could do the same, much less stumble,

“If you haven’t read the books (they’re good)“

I came here looking for a “was dismembered by refugees for food and fuel”.

I mean, if the trained swordsman is in the process of bleeding out from a high-caliber bullet wound, I can see it.

A brave unpopular opinion...

Rey’s empty box now has hair on it, and io9 is right there behind it... what are you so confused about?! Sometimes, i just don’t know about you.

All we know for certain is that after years of waiting, hoping and praying for new Star Wars films while being given a remarkable set of stories in the EU...what Disney gives us is a defeated Luke Skywalker, an evil Solo and a scrawny mysterious girl who seems to be the ultimate force user and pilot...despite the fact

Following on the heels of revealing Rey’s new hair on an empty box...

That’s kinda my thought. Take a real, actually published comic. Throw the silhouette at the bottom of every panel, and crack jokes. If you embrace the format, you could get some great sight gags, but the backbone would be commentary.

There’s one way this could work. There are some REALLY bad comics out there, the kind of comics you find at 7-11 where they’ve been collecting dust for the last 10 years. Get those, reprint them with Tom, Crow and Joel commenting on the worst bits in the corner of each panel.

Yeah being that at least Enterprise had decent set design, and at times passable writing. Voyager had horrible writing that they had no clue what they wanted characters to do, the sets looked like cheesy 80s style, the acting was horrible. I mean really, Enterprise was actually probably better than Voyager.

“and arguably their first good TV series since Voyager went off the air in 2001.”

Well, there is the saga of Lemmie Winks in South Park.

Because quality is not a guarantor of success, especially in a business that’s measured completely by the number of people watching and nothing else.

It was never properly promoted, so most people didn’t see it and get into it until long after it was canceled?

Dude, stop yelling!

Well you’re probably the only person who would describe successfully piloting black holes as uninteresting.

I don’t understand this Avatar thing. Yeah, it made a lot of money but it also basically had zero effect on the cultural landscape. Does Avatar even have a fandom?

CBS’s attitude is that they are on the Titanic (broadcast), sinking fast, and the lifeboat (streaming) is named the USS Discovery. They value Star Trek. They are counting on it to save their asses.

I said the same thing in the past in response to someone else’s comment that Star Trek doesn’t work in today’s cynical age. I whole-heartedly disagree with that idea. Optimism in art is needed more in an age of cynicism. Look at the birth of Star Trek and later TNG - the cold war and civil rights issues loomed.
