Stay at home dadding is something that we have considered once we have children (if we’re able to move somewhere where the cost of living is low enough to support a family on one income). But when we bring up the mere possibility of my spouse staying home with kids, we get all kinds of snide and “emasculating”

Single mother coworker of mine is also looking at lousy options (giving up apartment and moving in with extended family). Her little kids’ school district is doing distance learning (no option for in-person), and our school is requiring all teachers to teach face-to-face. She has begged and explained the situation to

Okay, that makes a lot of sense.

The standard way that tutors function for lazy rich students is relevant to this discussion but sure, go off.

No, that’s just not been my experience with students’ tutors. They do the assignments “with” them, heavily helping them. Often (not always), they kids aren’t internalizing the work they’re doing, but everything is in their handwriting and technically they “do” it.

For several of my own students, they have tutors because oversight is the only way they’ll do their assignments and pass high school. I wouldn’t assume that they were trying to improve their understanding of a subject, just that they were paying someone to drag them across the finish line.

It’s true, that’s why splitting with electrical tape is, I think, the superior (and very easy) solution.

oooooooooooooh

The website says this necklace is $295. That’s still a fortune, though.

Did some better Googling, found better stats:

I know a couple, not particularly wealthy, who are trying to conceive. I think every vial is closer to $2,000 inclusive. They haven’t succeeded yet and had to stop trying for financial reasons.

I mentioned the Kardashians as an example while I was teaching and the ICY COLD LOOK I got from my Zoomers...I was ashamed for playing into it.

at least one of us is confused

No, because this is not a reversal, this is a “suspension.” He intends to keep going forward with it.

I know it’s flawed, but I can only find data on the number of students receiving financial aid. As I’ve said elsewhere, it’s extremely unlikely that there are students enrolled at USC whose household income is under $110k who don’t receive a dollar of financial aid. The school brags that 2/3s of its students “receive

So many guidance counselors are absolutely worthless. My guidance counselor also tried to talk me out of applying to my top school, and my mom didn’t want me to apply because the tuition was so high. I got in and got enough need-based assistance that it was less expensive than a SUNY. We didn’t even know—and my

It’s really unlikely that a student that comes from a household that earns less than $100k would have $0 financial support. Colleges love to hand out mini grants ($1k-5k) so that they can say a large percentage of their student population receives financial aid. USC claims that 2/3s of its undergrads receive “some

They have a very similar acceptance rate and SAT range. However, Berkeley predictably has a higher average GPA.

Absolutely! It also helps when you buy the same things, which happened a lot with my roommates. We had a little shop close to our apartment, so there wasn’t a lot of brand variety and everything looked the same. Just put it on your own shelf and you don’t get confused!
