I heard a Native American give a talk about this before. It’s not that the name itself is necessarily offensive. It’s the fact that they’re using indigenous people as mascots after centuries of violence, broken treaties, and neglect.

Buffalo wings and garbage plates. So much more fun than pizza!

Thank you! Unfortunately, no, I don’t belong to a teacher’s union. My ultimate goal is to work in a public school, but I work in a private school for now. It’s a high school and we know that even teenagers will not stay 6 feet apart from one another or wash their hands. Our admin is walking the tuition tightrope.

As a teacher, albeit on the opposite coast, this gives me some hope. I don’t think that my school will do 100% distance learning and that scares me, but the more schools that demonstrate the proper amount of caution, the more care I hope my school admin will take with safety measures. To re-echo: there is no way to

MT MISERY

I’m sure there are aspects of sleep-away camp that suck, especially if you don’t want to be there. But staying home during the summer is boring as hell.

We used to watch The Parent Trap and Gidget at sleepovers in grade school. Classics!

I feel for parents who have kids who can’t stay home alone, unlike middle- and high-school aged children. If they’re being sent back to school, their teachers need full PPE. Without that, it’s unconscionable to ask that their teachers risks their lives for other people’s children. Period. I would start by demanding

I think the lower grades should absolutely be delayed! I teach high schoolers, and I think they’re capable of learning in a virtual and asynchronous blend. I’d say that, at most, 20% of my high schoolers would welcome a prolonged break in the fall semester—most are ambitious learners and want to get back to it. I

As a teacher, I’m praying for an all virtual return, though I know it won’t happen. I teach in a private school (because I just finished my PhD and couldn’t stand the thought of going through more coursework yet to get my teaching license). Our parents are demanding their kids go back to school. Our classrooms are

Interesting! Maybe I’d like it more if I was actually on TikTok (though I won’t be signing up for anymore social media for the sake of my productivity/sanity). I just see the TikToks that get posted on Instagram and Twitter and took them to be representative of the majority of the content.

OK, this cat TikTok is great. I’m mostly referring to the videos that feature the users themselves participating in a meme or scaring their grandma or something.

Disclaimer: This is not a criticism of TikTok users.

She may have told him to stay on the boat while she went for a swim. Still terrifying since he’s four and might jump in after you anyhow, but I’m not sure if we know that he climbed out of the water and back onto the boat. I would assume that he had a life jacket on and she didn’t.

I wish everyone well. It was a giant pain in the ass this year (because we both switched jobs), and the “free” H&R Block option—which did actually used to be free!—ended up costing $100 by the time we were through it.

I don’t mean to brag, but I’ve never had trouble just sandwiching the marshmallow off the stick with the rest of the ingredients. Usually the thumb gets a little chocolatey because it was holding down the candy, but that’s it. I’m pretty good at goo dodging.

Definitely harder to interpret with that last sentence, but pretty much the same sentiment holds. What she said is true. The language she uses is hollow and cold for a reason.

I agree that Kamala would be better, but Tammy can hold her own and I think her irreverent energy balances Biden out. I love Elizabeth Warren, but I don’t think it should be a double-white ticket. And getting a Vet on board is smart
