As a non-native English speaker I'm always pretty damn grateful of captioning. Especially when I have my volume turned down (or when my launch model 360 is rattling in the background…), it's easy for me to miss words here and there.

How can I get my (Windows) machine to output mono sound (i.e., combining the stereo channels) without using external hardware? (No, setting your "speaker setup" to "Mono speaker" does not actually make it mono!)
