I think in the stray observations from the first episode this season, the writer referred to themselves saying something like “I’ll be recapping this season”. So at least they’re self-aware about it.
Ice Pirates is available to stream now on HBO Max. I haven’t even thought about Ice Pirates in 20 years, but now I think I’m gonna watch Ice Pirates. Thanks MShep!
So now these reviews aren’t even adding more than a couple of the videos of the sketches in the article?
I totally agree, and content aside, it’s also a 3-hour movie, and while it does have some action set-pieces, most of it is a pretty slow burn.
I’m confused...what’s with calling the “appearance” discussion about Graham and DeSantis “a pleasant memory of the Chevy Chase/Jane Curtin/Dennis Miller Update eras, where photo commentary was regular—”?
Have they also issued a statement/apology for misgendering Sam Smith in a clue on that same episode?
Nice to see they keep up with the superhero movie tradition of the no-kill rule applying to not being willing to directly kill a villainous antagonist, but don’t seem to mind a lot of collateral innocent death along the way. I mean, there’s no way a bunch of people didn’t die in that fiery crash on the freeway that…
I saw it this evening - very early in the movie, someone says “fuck” and I thought, wait is this actually R rated? Or did they just randomly throw in their one use of “fuck” right out of the gate?
The cherry on top of the overturned trailer scene that had me absolutely dying was BJ’s line “The elixirs!”
Surprised no one has mentioned Who’s the Boss? Tony & Angela had a classic will they/won’t they managed to keep up until the last season. For a show that was consistently a top 10 show during the 80s it’s seemed to have pretty much vanished from cultural memory.
I kept imagining workers coming back after the holiday to find one concrete form mysteriously filled.
Or...maybe he’s doing exactly what he said he would do in his resignation statement - finishing up his current assignments with his TV editor Danette Chavez which should stretch until her departure on March 2
Dennis is leaving AV Club before long, and I wouldn’t be surprised if SNL reviews end with him. Not that they’ll be replaced by Yellowstone or anything else, just one fewer in the already paltry amount of shows they cover.
The new starship is cool, but where is he supposed to put prisoners when he brings them back for bounties? Or is he just going to have a “heads only” clause in all his contracts going forward?
Not sure if he’s included in those seven, but Dennis Perkins (he does SNL recaps, among other things) also announced yesterday he was leaving the AV Club. He worked freelance, not out of Chicago, and hadn’t been told one way or the other about his status, but he quit in solidarity with his coworkers.
The “Regular Coverage” section only lists This is Us.
What bugged me about this (spoilers)...
The best part of the “chocolate cake” scene is that it kicked off an incredibly long and surprisingly intense message board debate (I believe it was on imdb) as to whether yellow cake with chocolate frosting was or was not “chocolate cake”.
For what it’s worth, looks like you’ll get to see him again in the upcoming Morbius movie.
