Felony means you go to prison. Not jail. Prison. For more than a year, and may be required to pay a ruinous (to a normal person) fine, will likely permanently lose your rights to vote and bear arms, and will suffer a huge stigma that will likely result in it being difficult for you to find employment/housing.
