I feel like this case is a great example of how our American obsession with “fault” erases our ability to appreciate subtlety. I understand that there is a legal definition of “fault” here, but when it comes to emotional fault we seem to have only two settings: 1) Party A was at fault and therefore they are a monster

Really looking forward to all the people who called her a killer in the last thread rushing in here to fall on their swords. One thing you can count on, it’s internet people who were motivated ONLY by their concern for traffic safety issuing heartfelt mea culpas and vowing to learn from their mistakes.

Hmmmm why would the police claim Venus Williams was at fault before they had even reviewed all the evidence...hmmm I wonder.

I think the fact that the Barsons also entered the intersection lawfully confuses things, and without video showing that Venus was already in the intersection well before the Barsons had a green light, it was probably easy to assume that she’d run a yellow or something.

Yeah, you’ve had way worse. And? Asians should just shut up about everything race related cause they haven’t had it the worst of all?

Since you’re not asian, you can’t be expected to understand what it’s like to be within a stone’s throw of acceptance but always kept at arm’s length fulfilling the role of yes men. Don’t try to understand it, you can’t, you’re not asian and don’t have the lived experience.

Then criticize her complicity! Don’t mock her alleged abuse at the hands of her dad. It doesn’t make you part of the Resistance it makes you another abusive asshole.

Exactly hard nipples does not neccesarily, or even usually- especially in public, mean anything sexual. I loathe her for her complicity, but to attack her because “what if she has been abused”? Fuck right off.

Or she loves her father and has been groomed to keep the peace, her fathers mental health is declining and what little filter he had is gone, she knows her livelyhood depends on her dad and doesn’t want to be shamed for being a victim. Quit being gross.

Jesus God, you are on a roll lately. First defending the Catholic church against completely true allegations/dogma while shitting on their abuse victims, then attack Blac Chyna for not being a perfect victim of a psycho, revenge porn-posting, woman-beating Kardashian, and now this shit. You are really not a fan of

“You just didn’t think about it because, as a woman, you didn’t care until they gave you a hard time over a sleeveless outfit or peek-toe pumps.” Right there, you’re denigrating the story and the author by making the assumption she only cares when it affects women and imply that we don’t care about men’s rights just

Don’t like wearing a suit in the summer? THEN FUCKING DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Something other than “well if I can’t have my way then no one else can either”

There has always been a problem, and women have been talking about it forever. If you’ve been oblivious enough to ignore how shitty dress code standards are, and how people have been discussing this for ages, that’s a sign of your privilege and obliviousness, not lack of people calling it out. (BTW, we’ve been talking

I’m not 100% sure what exactly your argument is, but I’d like to point out the fact that the concise “uniform” for men (i.e. suit and tie) lends quite a bit of freedom, in a sense, to men that women don’t have. For example, all a male politician has to do to look professional is wear a decent fitting gray suit and a

Or it’s because you’re posting on a feminist oriented blog designed for women?

Oftentimes men ARE making the dresscode rules. If men’s clothing is so oppressive, it’s within the rulemakers’ purview (again, oftentimes men) to change the rules to benefit themselves, eg, not wearing suits. But they don’t.

Don’t like the dress code for men? Then try do something about it. Don’t just complain about women objecting to theirs.

I’ve always wondered how much energy would be conserved if offices didn’t have to air condition themselves into refrigerator territory because men are forced to wear suits and ties to work. I say this while sitting in my office, in Florida, in July, wearing a sweater because it’s freezing. Let men and women wear

Agreed, men should not have to wear suits. Among many other things, it’s a huge contributor to overuse of air conditioning and detrimental to our environment and natural resources.

Women’s clothing is inherently different than men’s clothing. They make workplace dresses with no sleeves for women. I’ve worn them with no problem in Corporate America for years. I can’t think of a male equivalent. Even the most casual male business shirts have sleeves. They can’t just arbitrarily change the rules
