There’s one scene in Rose where the Doctor is looking at himself in the mirror, checking himself out, which is usually read as him not being used to having a new appearance, but it’s not at all explicit and it ignores the mountain of evidence Clive has collected that the Ninth has been around for a while. Basically,

Because that was a spectacularly misconceived idea and should be shoved in a box marked, “let us never speak of this again”?

One of the weird things about the Wrath Of Khan vs The Motion Picture is that TMP makes a real, genuine effort to sell itself as the future of TOS, to look forward and to gain momentum. TWOK immediately turns its back on absolutely all that and heads straight into “ageing has-beens”. You can argue whether that’s a

Insane, and also untrue. People forget that the bulk of Season 2 is serialised, or at least semi-serialised and it’s one of the worst seasons of Star Trek there’s every been (and I say that as an ardent Voyager defender, and indeed someone who’s written two books on Voyager). Longform serialisation of the DS9 variety j

RDM wrote one and a half episodes of Voyager and nothing about his writing on the show suggested he had any idea of how to write for Voyager rather than writing for DS9 and hoping for the best. I love BSG but Moore was a very poor fit for Voyager and he was better off doing his own thing in the end.

Counterpoint - it is not a shame (she’s done Big Finish though, if you really want more).

What’s frustrating about it is that there is still the chance to do something good. I get why Lower Decks isn’t for everyone, but it has heart, and it has soul, and it has engaging characters, it has fun - remember when Star Trek could be fun? - and (perhaps most importantly of all) it’s actually relaxed about the

Star Trek VI is a bajillion times better than The Wrath of Khan. So is III and IV for that matter.

For better or worse (it’s worse) at least Snyder does actually have a distinctive approach. It’s mostly terrible, but it’s undeniably him. The problem with Picard is it barely even has that. It’s just generic sci-fi with a few Trek props and Some Characters You Might Recognise. There’s nothing distinctive about it at

This is an absolutely lovely performance from her as well. I know she’s being doing Peri for donkey’s years over at Big Finish (trust me, I know - I’m almost 180 episodes into recording/co-hosting a podcast dedicated to Big Finish) but it’s just lovely to see her get a shot at this. Her own little Night of the Doctor.

Redoing TNG incurred something like a $50 million loss for Paramount. Technically worth it as a proving ground (and catnip for fans, though not enough to make it pay) but no way are they throwing that kind of money to any of the other shows.

“$50,000 a day or we put a nice sprig of parsley on your paycheque!”

Still better qualified to run an audit than these jackasses.

Or, there’s the good one!

Did she not mean “only customer on New Year’s Eve”? I thought that’s what was implied, not the only customer ever. That’s what I took from it anyway.

Man, of all the things to ding Voyager for - and I say this as someone who’s written two books on the series - not having a counsellor is a strange one.

Star Trek V just isn’t that bad

Loki is more Legends Of Tomorrow, except for the bits where it’s Setup: The TV Show, and also Legends of Tomorrow does Legends Of Tomorrow better than Loki does Legends Of Tomorrow.

I did, and thought it was a godsdamned delight. I’m saddened it’s not gotten more coverage.
