I actually have hope that his personal brand is sufficiently tied to respecting women IRL that this stuff destroys him. Getting dumped by Kink is pretty big.

I don’t think the article is commenting on sex workers any more than articles condemning Walmart are commenting on Walmart employees. If we treat working for a crappy employer as a source of personal shame, then labor’s screwed forever.

Same reason Cosby was allowed to continue: conflict of interest. The people who could’ve stepped in were the people making money off him.

Yeah, he has “dead eyes.”

That picture of him gets more and more creepy each time it’s used.

There has never been a truer statement. Deen just looks like a regular white dude. He is not tall, not super built...he is just a white dude. Women are taught this because most of the mediums we watch are run by mediocre white men.

The thing I never really got was how many women loved him and were well aware how much he absolutely smacked the fuck out of many of the women he did scenes with. I mean I like rough stuff but his brand is a little much for me.

Indeed. That article pissed me off because a large part of it was devoted to “exposing” that one of the girls featured in the film who claimed she was done with porn was actually still an active performer. The author went to great lengths to do some digging to finally unearth this “gotcha” moment that felt incredibly

A few months ago, there was a really strong and strange (to me) critique of the movie Hot Girls Wanted for shining a light on an aspect of the porn industry that is very woman un-friendly. The article read to me like it was accusing the documentary producers of taking a hardline, anti-porn stand, which I don’t think

Remember folks, flag and dismiss the trolls. DO NOT ENGAGE.

Can people stop calling (white) men feminist because they said some nice things about women now? Or are y’all looking for the next great white guy to prop up as a savior to women?

Totally agree with you dude. Shorthanded accusations of exploitation made by some,by people with no refugee background, divorce her from the tremendous work she has done for her own refugee community - and beyond to support refugee advocacy over years. MIA has always articulated her art and politics from the position

MIA really *does* get it right.

They could be both. It's not like being a refugee means you have zero skills or talents to offer to the world.

There are obviously broader points to be made here, but how on EARTH is this woman 40 years old? She looks 25 tops.

That really is the amazing part. I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and so much of the music was folky protest music. Rap of course, in so many ways, is a protest movement dialed up to an 11. I’m sure that on an international level there are songs and songwriters for every plight (I don’t mean that in a glib way) but MIA

my friend was there by the beach where they were shooting this and he met M.I.A and got a selfie with her

M.I.A is awesome - quite literally awe inspiring. I feel humbled.

Few people can make on-point political music sound so good at the same time.
