Not just the nesting, but the loading of new comments is absolutely atrocious and typically you load so few comments at a time it would make reading articles with hundreds of comments a nightmare. On that same note, I would worry that mods would nuke comments they simply don't like even if the general community would appreciate them. I've seen this happen a lot on other sites. With the AV Club the mods and staff are typically really good but there is always that worry.
