Fun Fact: Obsidian Entertainment was making a nWoD game in the style of bloodlines at one point. It was apparently in pre-production when CCP bought WW and killed it so that it wouldn't dilute the brand they were hoping to build with this game.
Texture mod sucks. Use either the Clan Quest mod or a recent version of Wesp's fanpatch. Although your mileage may vary in terms of what version of Wesp's to use. He fixed most of the bugs ages ago and has since busied himself with really minor tweaks that don't do much.

Old post, I know, but top down does literally play differently. It's not a matter of technology. It's the fact that games that have a lower level perspective like The Witcher, or Mass Effect, or pretty much any jRPG, tend to be really simplistic and shallow when it comes to combat.
