This article reinforced for me that gender is totally separate from sex. I don’t understand how trans men having babies erases cisgender women. I may have missed something, but i honestly don’t recall when this site has suppress cis women’s experiences of motherhood?
Stay strong, and sending you hugs. Sometimes the worst people are the ones who have the shield of “but I’m on the RIGHT side.”
I’ve heard a lot of people frame their lack of acceptance of transgender women because of their male-privilege. If you’ll forgive my trans-splaining, as a trans woman, it’s exceptionally frustrating to have cis people assume that I ever was able to enjoy male-privilege prior to my transition.
Thank you. Fine, she’s a rich, ignorant republican. Lots of women are. The ire that she arouses in the left is disproportionate to the hate thrown on other right-leaning female public figures. And a lot of the trashing (again, coming from the left) is subtly—and sometimes obviously—transphobic.
Thanks for this, big star! Especially for this:
You’re be probably not going to find too many trans women who want to talk to you about how much male privilege they’ve kept, since that line of logic has been weaponized by TERFs and other anti-trans extremists to fight against trans folks’ rights. Until that context goes away, you’re likely to be viewed in the…
this line of thinking is used to delegitimize their experience as women, though. as young children, they feel the conflict between what society is telling them and what their hearts and minds tell them. they experience emotional trauma related to what society keeps trying to shove down their throats and their gender…
Gladly! :)
Thank you for this article, it’s quite possibly one of the best I’ve ever read on the subject. And you point out Rachel’s issue loud and clear.
As a cis woman who’s found herself chatting with men like that a few times on dating sites,* my heart breaks for the trans women who have to deal with their attentions. They’re truly horrible.
This is so true. You can spot them a mile away.
Because people have a right to their opinions, which means that they needs must spout them at every opportunity, regardless of anything constructive coming out of it?
Seems fairly different to me. Those logging in to oppose the pro-hitler point would have an actual reason for doing so. The spreading of those pro-Hitler arguments could result in harm to many people if it went far enough to result in political change, so they feel the need to point out it’s flaws. Whereas the…
Actually, I was pointing out that tone and content aren’t the same. I was making the point that you were excusing anti-trans people because they aren’t “emotionally involved” in their need to be uncivil towards trans folks.
Some folks just don’t believe that the he has become a she, so they continue to call them a he.
But it literally has no impact on your life, so why act this way?
This something you have an actual stake in, or is this just a philosophical exercise for you?
If someone disagrees with another person’s right to exist, that’s hatred. It may not be hot, emotional hatred, but it’s no less for it. There’s a reason we have first-degree murder as well as second-degree.
Plus, quite honestly, this is really about disagreeing with trans folks’ right to exist in public. Whatsallthatblackstuff can phrase it how they like, and be coldly analytical and polite about their perception of biology or “logic”, but in the end their argument is that some people disagree with whether trans people…
