Revenge of the Prius

I had an affected TDI as well. Now I drive a BMW 328d. The vw cheated, and as many times as they’ve tried, they can’t find any cheating on the BMW. As long as that’s the case, it proves the emissions targets are indeed reachable, VW just tried to cheat out of greed. I’m not saying BMW isn’t greedy, I’m just saying

Yes, which is close to what I claimed. In the same conditions, a Prius could crest and maintain 50+ mpg.

That is, unfortunately, very true. I got fantastic (44+ mpg) frequently, but I was also driving 170 mile/day, almost all highway. When you’re in the city, the mpg-ometer is a little depressing. 34 mpg?!?! <flips desk>

I don’t understand. My buddy had his TDI, and got his buy back. He waxes poetically about what a great car it was, and how reliable it was. In the 6 years he had the car, and the ~70K miles, the sunroof drain clogged, causing $700 worth of damage/repair. Infotainment system bugged out, and CD’s became stuck in the

After all the dust is settled on dieselgate I bet it will be another 4-5 years before they completely forget about it and try something illegal on this level again.

Just budget $2k per year you want to keep it in service and you’ll be fine.

look at older used Audi’s on CL. Most are ragged broken junk just as the VW’s are. They don’t last and become continuous sources of issues. VW/Audi under warranty, great car...just don’t keep it any longer. Far less MB and BMW product in similar states.

Isn’t “at all costs” what got them into this predicament in the first place?

When I worked at VW (2012-2014), parties like this were the norm. Always outrageous, always over the top, and always tens of thousands of dollars. And all this while my teammates were being laid off left and right. It never felt right. Now I work for an IT firm. Our last team-building activity was serving food at a

It turns out VW has already done the hookers-on-the-c0mpany-dime* thing. Didn’t work out so well. But it went on for more than a decade. It’s fair to say there’s a corporate culture at work here, and isn’t pretty. VW leadership is a pretty arrogant group. Fair to say it was top-down influenced by Piech and Co.

You keep posting that with no sense of irony. What exactly was the EPA trying to do when this accident occurred? Oh, that’s right, cleaning up the toxic waste products left by decades of private mining that extracted millions of dollars of profit and left behind a toxic site for the taxpayers to clean up. But a couple

If the government dictates standard parameters that’s fine. But when they started to select the technology for you, then it is time to revolt.

I rage against modern insurance, but that would be fair IMHO. If you aren’t responsible enough (excepting for parts availability) keep your car updated as mandated, why should the insurer continue to bear the increased risk for the same compensation? Do your job, then make them do theirs.

Shouldn’t these people be in prison?

I (or my company) haven’t broken any State or Federal laws working at my job, and I dont get anything even remotely related to a bonus.
