And so, the parallels between Michael Burnham and Clara Oswald are complete: the super-special woman retconned into the heart of everything important in their respective universes, who everyone they meet loves without any good reason, does something so very super-special that they have to be removed from all thought

So, I guess the Klingons are also going to keep quiet about everything they encountered with Discovery? And that “yum yum” line was atrocious.

It’s a shame that ST never really was a about battle scenes...

“A good authority figure”? Last season she was happy to go along with Emperor Georghiou’s suggestion to end the war by commiting planetary genocide on the Klingon homeworld, and a few episodes ago she dismissed Pike’s objections to Section 31's methods with a flippant “nation building is never easy”. Admittedly we’ve

This just reinforced may thought that Star Trek has been turned into Star Wars since JJ’s 2009 reboot. More emphasis on shiny things than actual plot, character development, or even tackling big ideas.

This show thinks so much of the main characters it created that it decided not to show any of them for the last 5 minutes of the season finale. That struck me as really bizarre. I was expecting some kind of tease at the end where we see a battered Discovery safely in the future, or maybe a look on Saru’s face when he

Your review doesnt really seem to match the B+ grade, but whatevs! I know we have to grade this show on a generous scale...

I was just gonna say, Sacrifice of Angels would like to have a word... or any of a dozen other DS9 episodes...

Yep. I love Pike and Number One more than anyone on discovery apart from Saru.

It looked pretty. At times. It was also relentless to the point of numbing, with garish, assaultive visuals that got less interesting the longer it went on. It was too chaotic, too busy. Discovery’s overriding mission statement seems to be one of just throwing everything at us 100mph and hoping that some of it

Wouldnt it be great if they just said screw the Discovery and gave us the Star Trek prequel we had hoped for on the Enterprise with Pike, Number One and Spock now that they’ve they’ve essentially hit the reset button. I say this fully aware Mount and Romijn are not returning. It’s just wishful thinking, especially

You left out the R2D2's coming out and working on the Enterprise.

First of all, we had never seen a swarming drone space battle on Trek. Beautifully rendered! Big Kudos!! But overall story, agree...mindlessly entertaining if you just don’t follow it and just let it flow over you....but then again...

so...all they needed was a magnet? none of the geniuses in Starfleet could figure out what jesse pinkman figured out?

also, control is “neutralized” BEFORE they travel to the future which I guess is good, could cause if they went to the future with control on board discovery, that would also defeat the point of the

True, but then they spent half of last week’s episode doing the same thing, so one five minute scene this week was a major improvement.

It’s a little sad how little tension there was during the episode. Not that I wanted anyone major to get killed off (I’ll miss the Admiral but, even without the timejump, she wasnt’ exactly a core character) or anything but the risks never really felt real even by TV standards.

Which does not matter for a show like Star Trek, right, I agree.

The damage, such as it is, is done. The retool solves nothing. Great, now we can have the same crappy show, but with “tighter spandex and smaller tricorders,” to quote Rick Berman. This isn’t a perfect solution because it solves none of Discovery’s most dire problems.

Because, as the history of this show to date demonstrates, making it almost completely about keeping an obsessive eye on obsessive fans, and on the elements over which they obsess, creates a lumpy, poorly-mixed mess that needs constant stirring and new (old) ingredients to semi-appeal to anyone. We don’t need more

Oh man. Seriously, fuck this show. What a waste of time it has been watching it. I’m going to go watch re-runs of DS9 and try to cleanse this show from my brain.
