most of the time i'm selecting text i'm using these tricks. but, most people forget about those special keys home, end, pgup, pgdn once the cursor is in position i rarely use the mouse. hold down shift and any direction key to select.

@rSelAromDotCom: Instead of dragging, place the caret at the beginning of the text you want select, then scroll down to the end of what you want to select and Shift+click. This is the only solution to the runaway scroll issue I've found.
