I was under the impression that it was not a product of colonialism, although some parts of it may have been changed under colonial rule. Everything I read about it states it is a very old (thousands) of year practice. I am genuinely interested, not trying to be contrary.
I worked in a nursing home that had something similar on the menu for the seniors. I thought it was a horrible mistake. It was green jello with carrots and broccoli in it. The residents loved it, I suppressed my look of disgust as I served it to them.
Then they should have said so. The argument made by those who find it offensive is that they don’t want the children to see it, and they don’t like the use of sexual imagery. That to me is prudish. If they really believe it is objectifying women (and one could definitely argue that), then that should have been brought…
I am so sick of the whole “won’t somebody think of the children” pearl clutching complaints. Just be honest, you don’t like it. Stop hiding your own prudish ways behind pretending to care about “the children”
