The review ought to be a broadside against pretty much any major CRPG that grapples with a sensitive subject, precisely because it’s gameification (and budget, arguably) that undercuts the story, every time. But then it tries to argue that this game is somehow uniquely bad.

Dragon Age 2 is still my favorite RPG (very small minority here) so I want to speak on the DA2 comparison specifically.

To be fair, this is one of only 2 negative reviews I've actually seen. I've mostly seen positive reception.

REALLY well put, Michael. Point 3 is something I’ve been thinking a lot about in this context: like, unless you’re exclusively making bluegrass music, you owe a huge amount of credit to black artists. That’s a damn FACT. So where does cultural appropriation start and stop?
