Io9 itself has pretty much gone down the drain, I mainly come here because most people in the comments section are actually more logical and thorough in their responses than the actual article they are replying to. 

A good possibility for sure, and if it had divided them, that should make it even more necessary for them to have some sort of conversation about all of this. I’m just spitting in the wind here, but my guess is this may have divided the writers of i09 considerably.  Agree with you completely, however.  

io9's coverage has been pretty pathetic, the updates here have been pretty much all coming through meatwadf’s posts.

Yup. People and glass houses, I suppose. I guess I was at least hoping for some people to look inward and realize, “hey, maybe this isn’t such a great way to go through life and how to handle things.” Maybe even see a few articles looking to discuss the things brought up in this very letter. Nope.

But also, making shitty shock humor tweets about rape or pedophilia is not the same thing as actually participating in rape or pedophilia, and putting them on the same ethical level is dangerous. Roseanne’s racist jokes were just that-direct instances of her participating in racism. This is not that. It doesn’t work…

It matters because the outrage did not exist beforehand. This was a nonissue. Gunn publically apologized for this stuff six years ago. He hasn’t behaved in a similar manner since.

This deserves all the stars I can give, which alas, is but one. Bravo.

The last one is key, as well as having the cast support. I know some folks were trying to compare this to Roseanne, but:

Pretty much. Cutting of their noses to spite their faces is a perfectly acceptable thing to do, if it means the nose is a dummy lib. 

This was a huge misjudgement by Disney and I really hope they reinstate Gunn. The ridiculous thing is that they knew exactly who James Gunn was when he was first hired in 2012/13. He came from the Troma stable famous for its poor taste outrageous humour His first film was Tromeo and Juliet with was pretty low brow…

Hoping Disney does the right thing here. They caved to pressure from (accused) rapists, and nazis too quickly. There is still time to make it right.
