Rumor is that, as the divorce was not amicable, Lucas has been re-editing the films to the point where they are legally distinct from the versions that existed prior to the divorce. Dunno if it's true, but based on the stuff Lucas has said and done in the past, I find it believable. :shrug:

I'm sure Lucas insisted on some codicil that prevents Disney from selling the OT in their original form. Lucas created the Special Editions out of spite for his ex-wife, and he's keeping the Special Editions out of spite for those of us who complained about them.
