Great premise aside, Tomkins makes this sketch work. His expressions and tone throughout are fantastic, right up to the stuffing-an-entire-slice-in-my-face ending. (Spoiler…alert?)

You can actually see a copy of Snow Crash at certain points in the movie. It was deliberately placed there by the filmmakers.

I wouldn't call the ending atrocious, but it's definitely the fumbling of a huge opportunity and an incredibly well-set-up beginning. That movie will always grip me in ways no other horror film can, because it attacks what turns out to be my own biggest "body-horror" fear: inexplicable loss of understanding.

I'm so keenly aware of Pontypool's weaknesses that I don't put a lot of force behind my recommendations of it. But for me, it's several times scarier and more interesting than something like 28 Weeks Later, or even Drag Me to Hell.
