Modern turbo technology would allow it to have an incredible plateau of torque as early as 2000rpm. Seems like a win-win to me.

X50 has larger turbos, K24's instead of K16's. I prefer the K16's since they hit quicker. You can make 600whp with a set of billet ones easily.
