*Trebek gets a note from off-screen, reads it* “People, remain calm. The Falkland Islands have just been invaded. I repeat, the Falklands have just been invaded!”

That assumes that all of their subscribers for both services will pay for the higher cost subscription and that demand for their content is price inelastic. I really like Hulu, but if Disney doubles the price, I’m going to drop it. To force everyone to do that while inflation is already high and the talking heads on…
“Thank heaven for little girls” and such. The French are gross
JFC.
Even Leon character finds it cringey, and that’s what saved it for me. He very specifically makes sure it never goes beyond platonic because he knows it’s wrong. Which is more than can be said for the director, a fact I only learned much later in life.
“(Okay that last one only applies to Larry David, who wasn’t technically “in” Seinfeld.)“
I’m with you, it was definitely cringey at the time. I always thought part of the point of the movie was that the relationship was all kinds of unhealthy for both of them?
“And Jerry Seinfeld is Jerry Seinfled.”
He literally is not.
I think there’s a difference between “Here’s a thing I happened that I don’t like” and “I wrote an entirely different episode in my head and this show is bad because it’s not that.”
“Jack ghosting Keeley and moving to Argentina for a few months had big “Poochie died on the way back to his home planet” energy. (If that Simpsons reference goes over your head, please Google “Poochie” and thank me later.)”
I’ve come to realisation that “some” people get disappointed in shows/films not being what they expect them to be, based on how they’ve played things out in their head.
Man, AV Club really is mostly slide shows and listicles now, huh? Such a shame. Everything on the internet turns to shit eventually.
It was definitely subtle, but Sally goads him with the “bad boy god” line, feeds into his ego by claiming his junk is “impressive,” and then strokes his shoulder as she’s leaving for the bathroom.
i think the reason we aren’t reacting that way is because we like it and think it’s good.
Pretty sure Joel was laundering money for Frank and Nicky’s family through his clubs. That can only go on so long before the feds come a knockin’.
I’d argue neither is a villain, they are just both complex characters that have flaws.
I don’t think he was bad per se, just typical of men of that era. What his wife wanted was completely secondary, and he happened to be married to the rare woman (again, of the era) who decided not to put up with it. He was always more confused than anything by her emerging independent streak.
This. They had a relationship, maybe a business partnership. But it was never a friendship. Mostly because Midge is an asshole. But also partly because Susie is stubborn (and not terribly good at business for most of the show). Midge views relationships as mostly transactional, a trait she picked up from her parents…
Yup. All of Midge’s relationships are one sided. She doesn’t wake up in the morning and say “how can I use my ex-husband to further my career today?” but when she has a conflict and needs someone to take care of the kids so she can do a show, she knows she can call on him and he will say yes while at the same time she…
They never even tried to teach us those in school!
