I certainly wouldn't call Cimarron a forgotten masterpiece, and if anything, City Lights, Little Caesar, and The Public Enemy stand out as the best films that year. But it's a decent film, and hardly the worst to ever win top honors. It's the Grover Cleveland of Best Pictures.
