It looked really bad from trailers, like they owed him a show for something else he acted in and this is his reward, but the studio obviously didn't try.

I have no idea if all this happened. I will say Emma Roberts has never impressed me either as a person or an actress, and seeing that the latest season of AHS stars her, Kim Kardashian, and Cara Delevigne made me ask if Ryan Murphy had hired anyone who could act. 

I’ve seen the theatrical version, and I’ve seen the extended version. The cuts did not make an already bad movie worse. The extended version doesn’t add anything except running time.
