What I love is that whenever Bond (or "Bondt" I guess) shows up, he always ends up getting foiled by Homer's stupidity in a very un-Bond-like manner.

Fauxdo.

Fauxdo.

Yeah, Mystery Men was made by a guy who was focused on being Tim Burton, rather than on making a good comedy. There was actually a whole subgenre of movies like this throughout the 90s, probably largely inspired by the Burton Batman. Movies that were sort of, vaguely, comedic and with a "comic book" sensibility but

And in fact I remember disliking "Je Souhaite", but I think that's because I was so in awe of Darin Morgan's episodes I couldn't stand it when people tried to imitate him—"Post-Modern Prometheus" in particular felt like Chris Carter saying "Hey, I may have driven off that brilliant dude who redefined the show, but

I probably should have made this request a lot sooner, but I'd really like to see, in the comments, the opinions of whoever's off this week, Zack or Todd. If nothing else it'd be interesting to see if they have any disagreements.

I kinda liked "Roadrunners", "Theef", "Signs and Wonders", and "The Amazing Maleeni"—I was a defender of S7 at the time, though it's possible those episodes don't hold up. I guess we'll see!

The proto-Family Guy incessant pop culture referencing was the thing that always kept me from really embracing this show as a kid, even though it obviously had a lot of stuff to recommend it. I remember reading an interview with John Kricfalusi later on where he fumed about Animaniacs—he said something to the effect

That's one of the weird things about Animaniacs, their references were often kind of "off" when it came to celebrity parodies. I remember Mel Gibson showing up in one episode with an Australian accent for some reason, which made it seem like the writers were getting their information about Mel Gibson second hand and

Mindy and Buttons were my least favourite, though I suspect I'd like them better now because they mostly try to be old-school cartoons and avoid the strained hipness of the other segments.

There are a couple of Goodfeathers segments that suggest they could have been so much more: the boxing episode (which, inevitably, riffs on Raging Bull) and the one where they get stuck in a six-pack soda holder (which I like because they actually ditched the pop culture references). But yes, this show as a whole had
