Rabbit was MK1 (pre 85). Smaller, lighter, flimsier chassis. MK2 went from 85-92, (except corrado which went to 95). 93-99 was the mexican golf/jetta era and where VW began to go wrong (styling wise). It has progressed down from there. 

im just not sold on that neuspeed strut brace, i never was. the mechanical engineer in me says it really couldnt do much. I mean, how much shear load could those nutserts possibly carry ? And even if the 1/16" sheet metal towers they were sunk into could actually carry significant load, the bolts used to pin it…
