If you are a developer and have a 64 bit OS. Do not update your Java versions. The installs from later versions WILL override your 32/64 bit settings, sometimes causing your Java apps to crash with bizarre error messages. Instead, keep a clean version of each; if you must update uninstall earlier versions and only

I read the last article [lifehacker.com] on the cheaper knives and decided to try them out. Best knives ever! I've used my share of Cuisinarts but these are incredible. Love these articles, good job Kevin and Adam.

@kschang: I know, wonder what message Jason's trying to convey here.

Falun Gong is the way to go? Really?

@Xander: Exactly, it's an interesting question. If some person had prevented 911, let's say we never had the tragedy. Would he/she get e medal/awarded millions of dollars for it? Probably not. There's visible gain in prevention but without it, the downside is, well, we know.

Now the question is, how much would it cost them if the passwords weren't reset on a regular basis?

@kayfouroh: That doesn't make sense to me, your provider must not be telling you about some options. I had to go through pages and pages of crap to find the right combo for me (TimeWarner) through Roadrunner's home page.

Nice article, I don't know why anyone would get a VoIP phone service when they have cable internet. There are so many alternatives out there that cost much less than what the Cable companies charge. Hardware-wise there's Zoomba, Magic Jack and software-wise there's Skype in/out. I've been using Skype for a few years

@pvliii: I actually use it very similar to the way you do and set up GV as the voicemail for my phone, the problem arises here. People trying to call me kept complaining that the number is not in service or there's no option to leave a voicemail. Also, I've had no luck getting any transcripts to my android phone, just

@pz: LOL I'm not saying GV doesn't work for me, I'm saying I don't have a Gizmo5 account so I can't use GV. Thanks for the tip, though.

@pvliii: Maybe I'm not using it right, the only reason you'd use it is to dial long distance, right? Otherwise you can just use your office phone to call. I have the number linked to my cell phone and I'm not getting calls to my cell phone number correctly, sometimes there's no option to leave a voicemail either.

Do we still need a Gizmo5 account to use full GV features? Currently GV's useless to me since it's only a replacement number and service is intermittent, at most.

@benjgvps: Really? A new era has begun where these blogs have the power to DoS any site. Thanks for the info.

@CaptainSpankOMax: They've been lifehacker'ed. Lifehacker has the ability to DoS some websites, so scary yet cool.

@SQLGuru: Amazon's good too, but the only problem I see with eBay is that it's affected too much by supply-demand, especially in the holidays. So one would need to set a baseline sometime before the purchase and realize that pillowpets* do not cost 80$ usually.

@retrac: I see a great propensity for Apple to get better reviews and other companies not to and I don't understand why. For example, if you look at the customer service reviews [www.laptopmag.com] no one comes even close to Apple despite the stated flaws.

Sorry to stride off-topic a bit, but I hate it when people write about customer-service, shipping, buying experience and a "similar product" in reviews. It doesn't help at all. Wait, what am I doing here.
