I agree with everything you say except that I found "We Found Love" grating and offensively simplistic even before the oversaturation. Harris' first album was a lot fun but the more he goes for dumb American radio tunes, the more respect I lose for him.

Some receivers have a built in compressor or limiter than can really help even things out. Of course you'll have to run your TV through it and out of some decent speakers (not too expensive), but it's def worth it.
