Agreed. No puzzle, stealth or platformer categories. I could maybe understand stealth since it’s super niche but there are plenty of puzzle and platformer games released each year. The categories could even be combined if needed since TGA already does that with simulations and sports games.

Puzzles are for nerds.

I’m not serious, but I could absolutely see Geoff Keighley saying something like that.

I would argue that the mechanics ARE the core of the game.

Ngl, this looks charming af and perfect for the holidays.

Are you claiming Super Mario RPG is not and RPG? I agree that it doesn’t deserve to be nominated as it is a remake and I think doesn’t qualify due to release date but it is definitely a JRPG. But yes Advance Wars is a non rpg built upon the design of an SRPG.

I have no idea what you are talking about the game uses mostly the same map and graphics but it plays completely differently. The building elements of the game may not have been your cup of tea but are some robust and complicated that the game is sort of a masterclass in design.

sooooooo then Spiderman 2 shouldn’t be on the list either by that logic.

“Once you get bored of the sandbox stuff” - legitimately haven’t and still find things to fuck around with after all this time and have trouble putting it down once I start playing - Spiderman 2 hasn’t done the same for me

True, Cloud also gets impaled by a sword in the original game, he’s just much better at not dying about it.

Wait just a minute, you’re telling me that you think TotK is just more BotW, and then with a straight face don’t think the exact same criticism applies to Spider-Man 2. If anything Spider-Man 2 is far more derivative of its previous games than TotK is of BotW.

Personally I think they’re both excellent games well

Look, I don’t want to be annoying about it, but RE4 has no business being up for game of the year. It’s a fantastic facelife, but it isn’t a new game. The same goes for Deadspace (which, FWIW, I think was always a more interesting action horror game than RE4), and I’m glad that one didn’t get nominated.

Call me crazy but this marketing vehicle gussied up as an award show is not where I care to hear takes regarding Middle East conflicts.

One one hand, free pizza rules and it’s Domino’s own damn fault for making a full-on freebie code in the first place.

On the other hand, free pizza does rule but ordering 77 free pizzas is overly greedy and just calling attention to it, ruining it for everyone.

On the other hand, I feel bad for those employees that got

In my life, I only have room for like one live service game. How do they expect 12 to succeed? I want to be able to play other games too, and I appreciate self-contained experiences that have a conclusion. I guess they must be different genres to get their own niche followings?

I was more speaking from like.... an investor infrastructure POV. Your whole system relies on that specific game/IP being “popular” (or popular enough to have a player base large enough to profit from). The bulk of the community could move to a new game in a matter of weeks if something deemed “better” comes out.

What We Do In the Shadows is amazing, though he’s part of an ensemble cast there. He’s the lead in a show called Toast of London which is HILARIOUS but also very, very British.

Try Garth Merenghi’s Darkplace. It’s the first place I saw him, and I think he might only be the second best character in it.

I pretty much disregard these early hot tokes for any movie...but...

Well, historically, Nintendo has been the least willing of the big three to adopt backwards compatibility. Almost none of its home consoles have played the previous generation’s games, with the Wii and the Wii U the outliers in the company’s 40 years of consoles.”

Yeah its not being talked about because it’s been *checks notes* 6 months since it came out. Literally half a year. No game keeps momentum that long in the zeitgeist unless it is a live service game where updates come every month.

You do realize that this has been about the best year for games in over a decade, right? No shit people aren’t replaying it right now, there are just too many other games to play and it has nothing to do with the game itself.
