While LPs may have the "best" sound quality, in theory at least, the reality was somewhat different.  Back when everybody used to listen to LPs (because that was what we had), they mostly sounded pretty bad.  Poor equipment, mishandling, etc. made the general experience full of hissing, scratches, pops, skips, etc.

Right there with you.  I loved LPs when I was younger, but at this point it's all about portability (and reducing clutter).  The CDs and LPs that I still have are boxed up and I download about 95% of the music I buy (which is still a lot).

I don't see any mention of the Bartimaeus books by Jonathon Stroud.  I really enjoyed reading these to my kids.  They're smart and funny and a little reminiscent of "Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell" - for me at least.

I just finished 1Q84.  It really picked up for me about 1/4 of the way through and I ended up enjoying it quite a bit.  As @HobbesMkii:disqus said above, Richard Ford's language is captivating.  I'm really looking forward to reading this one…

I used to like PHC, but Q: How many Guy Noir episodes is too many?  A: Way less than I've heard…  I still like the News from Lake Wobegon, but I can't listen to the rest of it. Particularly when he starts singing.

@avclub-749a8e6c231831ef7756db230b4359c8:disqus Pretty sure that's a clip of the actual video for "You Might Think."  If you look those are the faces of the rest of the band (besides Ric Ocasek, who's in the foreground) pasted on the people in the audience.  It hasn't aged well…
