refresh rate is important for one reason: film. blurays and dvds are 24 fps, so the best way to watch them is in your tv's 24p mode. if your tv is a 60hz panel, it almost definitely will not (i have never seen one) have a 24p mode. without this, you will experience judder during pans and fast motion on any film

wait a minute, so it doesn't work with the hulu desktop application, but i assumed it would work with their website at least. am i reading correctly that it doesn't even work on the website? if so that's pretty unbelievable.

rather than downloading and running a vbs script, an easy way to find out the last time you reformatted (on xp) is to look at the created date on c:\windows\setuplog.txt . i'm sure there's an equivalent way of doing it on other versions of windows, but i'm on xp right now so i can't figure them out.

using the IP address in a bookmark won't work for MANY sites, because of virtual shared hosting. a virtual shared host looks at the URL you typed into the address bar in order to redirect you to the proper website. the only way the IP address method will work is if the site has an exclusive public IP address.

i usually search within google reader, since it lets you search based on a certain folder or subscription. not everyone uses greader obviously, but maybe it will be useful to someone.

rather than putting all those shortcuts in your system32 directory, you can also create a new directory just for that purpose and add it to your path.
