You do need to compare it to the cost of a normal roof. I have quotes to replace my roof with asphalt shingles (one of the cheapest and most common options) and it will cost me $15k to $25k. $50k for roof + battery is not that bad. Especially since that price is before tax breaks and electricity savings.
