Before AV Club spins uncontrollably down the drain pipe of Univision’s sink, like some gelatinous, waxy material that you found in your pet’s canned food you bought at the 99 cent store, maybe this would be a time to remember a fine classic from AV CLUB’s LEGENDARY MOMENTS. For those that were not yet born, I present

I thought it was an OK idea—taking the world that could only be alluded to in the documentary and giving it some life. But Zemeckis tends to CGI/motion capture everything to within an inch of its life. And yes, he’s schmaltzy, in a way that often undercuts whatever insights he’s trying to offer. (ie. Jodie Foster tra

This looks like something that is either great or really bad, with little chance of being in the middle (I just searched, and it is called a “bimodal distribution”). The cast gives me hope, and it certainly looks unique, but Zemeckis gives me pause.

“schmaltz” or just emotions that makes certain people uncomfortable? (No offense.)

Zemeckis doesn’t get enough credit for how macabre, twisted, and visionary he can be. Death Becomes Her is a gothic horror comedy about immortal women who mutilate each other’s bodies while fighting over a man. Cast Away made you believe a man could get an emotional connection with a volleyball. It’s a meme-joke now

That trailer makes it look like 2 kilograms of something for which the recommended dosage is one pill every 8 hours.

Right! I guess the alternative would be to give more time to those who are going to progress further in the season, and when it’s time to eliminate the first contestant, leave a reaction of “Wait, who was that? Okay.” Though I suppose you do want to highlight the mistakes a chef makes that sends them home.

Maybe review the book he wrote rather than the book you wish he wrote?

Having a big problem with the AV Club assessing anything as “lily white.” From its editorial staff to the acts it selects for AV Undercover and studio sessions, AV Club tends to skew pale. Hip hop gets lip service, and the live acts featured are more hipster-hop than anything else. This is a publication based in

Somehow giving a Steve Hyden book a B- feels kind of ironic given how downhill music coverage on this site has gone since he left.

THE AV CLUB

Sometimes it feels like I’m posting nothin’ at all!

Unhelpfully.

How about we don’t spend Martin Luther King Day talking about websites by white supremacists?

Oh wow... that’s just... I mean... I really miss Disqus :(

I remember when the AV Club used to live-chat these things. But I remember a lot about the AV Club. (I’m in a mood because I read the second-to-last entry in A Histroy of Violence again earlier, and it reminded me of what things used to be like.)

I’m gonna chalk that remark up to the gas leak

You better hope they’re ONLY paintball guns, son....
