I think it depends on your tolerance for silly fun — not just parody song as a genre. But I also think it's terrific that somebody was able to rise above the novelty label of what it is that he does by being so finely tuned to what makes the songs he chooses to parody popular and gearing his lyrics to fit the 'sound'…

I think it mostly came about ever since the concept of naming and generalizing character traits came about. I have no particular beef with the concept that wide swathes of people can be shaped by world events, it's when we start treating all the people as being so alike where it becomes an issue.
