I think potlucks are great for friends that you see often and we always bring our own drinks. But when I'm throwing a holiday party I tend to want to do the whole thing myself and if someone wants to bring something I ask them to bring wine or ice which is always appreciated.

I've eaten there my whole life my fathers's family were cafeteria conoisseurs and I know most things there aren't that great. But you will have to pry my fried fish from my cold dead hands lol.
