Most Western countries outside the US - the a tip is literally a tip. Usually standard in restaurants unless something disastrous happened, but not to US levels - 10-15% is typical (the staff are being legally paid, remember, not some sort of “semi-wage” depending on tips to top up).

McDonalds and McCafes don’t have the same coffee/equipment/training. McDonalds serve urn-warmed filter coffee - McCafes serve using the classic individual serving barista machines that any “coffee” place has.

The coffee in McCafes is often excellent, and the best option in many areas without good independents etc.

It sounds like the sort of story you tell close friends over drinks in awkward self-deprecating shame decades later... not something you put in a memoir.

If you’re a competent parent/aunt/uncle etc who they know and trust, a good gift is also time: offer an overnight babysitting, so they can actually relax/drink/sleep.
