There are different types of vacations - there's the short relaxing type, that's essentially a-locational, basically resort-based (even if not technically on a resort), and there's the "actually get to know a new place" type.

I think the point is "Spend your money as a priority to allow you to go for longer (ie bills and rent at home, a cheaper hotel etc) rather than having a hotel suite with gold taps". 2 months in a private room at a good hostel is one hell of a lot more likely to hit the dream spot than 5 days in a suite feasting on
