In addition, Musk’s argument that “humans use just 2 eyes to drive” is disingenuous because the goal for autonomous vehicles isn’t to just replicate human driving performance...it should be MUCH MUCH more safe and better in every possible situation (think snow storm or thick fog etc).

In fact there is a guarantee that every Tesla sold so far can NEVER have full L5 autonomy because they lack the sensors necessary.

I understand the argument. However once real L5 autonomy is a thing people won’t be paying $20k EXTRA for it. It will be included in the price of a car because of competition.

well it is very possible they designed this specific turbine to give a flatter torque curve than anything since but it for sure would have had tradeoffs which is why no one else bothered to do it since.

425 ft lbs out of the gear reducer. Turbines like this (and turbo prop planes have a massive gear reducer to increase torque and slow down rotation to something manageable.
