I assume if Steve King says something is uncivil, it’s because someone very politely mentioned racism in his presence.

Yup. Not exactly a Sherman fan, because he did some pretty horrifying things to the Native Americans later on, but he certainly gave the South what it deserved.

Great writing. I had a similar introspective experience from the other side - starting from white feminism and then realizing everything I’d been saying about men not listening to women could be applied to how white people react to POC talking about racism.

The nose-picking thing really nailed it for me. A whole lot of people have gotten the message that blatant racist shit is inappropriate, but they don’t seem to understand that it’s actually wrong - or why it’s wrong - as opposed to just impolite.
