Poodletime II: the Return of Poodletime

Anyone else thought it was Pratt who wanted to have 20 kids to please the Lord?

The Keira Knightly version was set at a different time (~15 years earlier) than the BBC version. This partly explains the costume differences. The BBC version is more in keeping with the clothes described in the book... sprigged muslin, etc.

That’s what he thinks.

The Bennets aren’t in financial straits and are very far from desperation, though. They are not fabulously wealthy but they’re very comfortable. The problem is the money is tied to the estate, so they only have it so long as Mr Bennet is alive. When he dies they have almost nothing, like the protagonists in Sense and

It’s interesting, because at the time I was hesitant to see Persuasion because the reviews indicated it was a “darker” presentation. But I found it rich and beautiful, haven’t hesitated to rewatch it in the intervening years. But the sunny wealth of Ehle/Firth P&P? Meh.

my understanding of men is that they pretty much tell you exactly who they are and what they want when you ask.

I remember that! How reduced are we in circumstances, though, that we have to take our small pleasures in successes like these? I was a dispassionate dater — I had no truck with lame, strange, unpleasing, or bizarre boyfriends — so, oddly, I recognized Trump right away (like, last spring,) as a serial abuser who was

I just love that you can almost cause a car wreck during a road trip by pointing excitedly out the window and cooing, “Ooooh, look! A whole FIELD full of naked ladies!”

Probably Bannon— he’s a savage who can spell. And he’s just as salty as Trump over Blumenthal’s suit against the Trump Money-Laundering Empire, because boo hoo on those nasty financial regulations.

Or a spork!

It’s like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife and fork, for your KFC.

It’s a free ride if you use Dad’s money!

Here in the East Bay, there are TONS of naked ladies all over my neighborhood. I just noticed them this last few weeks cropping up all over. I guess I thought they were just a Bay Area flower.

WORKING HARD!

If only he just lied about his bone spurs. Sad!

Oh yes. The BBC version is obviously following the Merchant/Ivory trend at the time- very lush, full period pieces with beautiful costuming. It’s a treat, and the script is faithful to the book. But the series does not have the sense of war ( Britain was at war with France AND just lost the North American colonies)

I loved the Joe Wright version in 2005. I just thought everything about it worked better. (I also loved Atonement and Hanna.) The 1995 P&P would fall near the bottom of my list of favorite Austen adaptations. Persuasion was better that very same year.

Aaaahhh. It’s this that makes me feel like a crazy person!
