Sure, though I guess it depends on the type of buyout clause too. Like, Suarez’s famous £40 million clause, it only obligated Liverpool to negotiate in good faith with Arsenal, not automatically accept the offer.

I listen to the Double Pivot podcast and they raised a good point - it makes absolutely no sense that the apparent sticking point in the negotiations is Lukaku’s agent’s demand for a £90 million buyout clause. Why wouldn’t Everton agree to this?
