So your problem with public transit is the public, not the transit. Hate to break it to you but transit agencies aren’t allowed to discriminate against people based on whether or not they have a permanent domicile. To avoid your own neighbors and the problems they face by opting out of public services because you have

You’re using a 23 year old case that has since been fully incorporated into transit agency decision-making at local, state, and federal levels as a reason why transit sucks today? I work for a transit agency and before we conduct any service change we’re required to evaluate whether that change would have a

Well, maybe you should focus on investing in public transportation that supports everyone and not isolate yourself any further from the rest of the inhabitants.

Actually, “not wanting to deal with those issues” is, precisely, elitist. Be elitist all you want, but at least own it.

Crosstown buses usually stop every 2 blocks or so, but those are avenues, which are quite long. That’s how they are supposed to work. Remember, buses aren’t just for young, able-bodied people who want to to get somewhere that they could walk to if they wanted. Buses are often a life-saver for the elderly and mobility

I mean...that’s what the bus is for.

No, public transit in SF is very good, especially the buses. You sound like a weirdo gentrifier who hates the idea of sitting next to poor people who can’t afford smartphones.

“It’s nice that some cities have great public transportation, but not every city does.”

I echo what others have said re: bus routes already, but my main issue with this article (and why it sounds just a bit out of touch and elitist) is that the author never mentions how this is similar to a bus at all (except for a throwaway line). I do think there is a market for this sort of thing (and it exists in

This ridiculous rush to defend public transportation systems as being of the people for the people is absolute bullshit. Look at the civil rights lawsuits that have been brought against public transportation systems for the inequity in how lines are distributed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bus_Riders_Union_(Los_Angel

Won’t someone think of the venture capitalists?

It’s like a bus, but instead of supporting social programs with your fare (ew!!!) you support a Silicon Valley start-up (yay!!!)

the “disconnect” is that people like the author can’t imagine themselves using public transportation, basically for class/caste reasons

Because both San Francisco and Chicago (where the service is in beta) are famous for their lack of public transit. This is simply another technolibertarian attempt at keeping poors from mingling with the rest. “Don’t take the bus/metro, take a Lyft Shuttle!”

NYC buses don’t stop every block. Maybe there are a few bus lines where this happens here and there, but the idea that buses usually go one block and then stop is just inaccurate.

so it’s a bus route, except maybe you won’t see a poor person? truly innovative

People who voted for Trump should be fucked with spurs.

Aw, does valid criticism of your racist moron offend you, snowflake? There, there. We know there’s nothing more delicate than the fee-fees of conservatives.

As Mike Muir once said, “Maybe you need to be offended”.

Just a reminder: The Electoral College is not a person (not even one!). Second reminder: More than half of Americans did not vote Trump into office. Final reminder: Bad habits of people you associate with can rub off on you. Check the lying and revisionist history. Not a good look for your boy or you. Cheers!
