This guy doxxed himself....(BTW, he named his dog “Mossburg”.)
I watched most of this yesterday. In an otherwise shitty, Trump-filled 2017 and 2018, these kids have proven to be a beacon of hope to my cynical soul.
Three things in no particular order:
1. Paul McCartney marching in NYC, honoring John Lennon’s life
2. the $1.05 reference the kids placed at the doorstep of Marco Rubio
…
Some of my favorites:
A man who appeared to be leading the group told his troops to cross the street because the sun was shining there and it was too cold in the shade.
BTW, hands down best quote of the day was from this speech Aalayah Eastmond:
Naomi Wadler did that! To stand in front of that many people and speak for all our fallen sisters was so brave. I had to send this to my family so they can tear up with me. This beautiful child spoke more eloquently and articulately than most of the White people serving in Congress. I’m so pleased to see Black young…
I am not easily impressed; I was floored by these kids, today. Floored. The move by the Stoneman Douglas kids to only let kids and young people speak was an absolutely brilliant move.
I’m sobbing. This woman is so brave. To be thrown into to this and handle it with such strength and poise. Last I heard she’s attending my Alma Mata in the fall and I don’t feel worthy.
This young woman is truly impressive. Even if, as detractors are sure to suggest, she had help with her speech (which any adult speaking to a national audience would do), the way she delivers it with such understanding and conviction clearly shows how firmly she grasps her words.
This is how to be an ally. Recognizing one’s privilege, and not feeling guilty and defensive about , but using it to help bring some other people’s truths to the light, and calling out the ignorance at the same time.
And an 11-yr old shall lead us.
They came prepared, too. They came prepared with a diversity of speakers, from different cities, with different stories – but in service of a common goal, to fight for something better
So many Black teens marched after Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice, and Mike Brown were killed by police officers. They did not have celebrity, mainstream media, and corporate support the way these kids do. One of my biggest complaints about Obama was that he didn’t support BLM enough in fear of pissing off Whites (who…
I think it was the Time cover/similar levels of media that made them realize that Aaliyah Eastmond was getting cut out of media portrayal and they have been trying to signal boost her without putting her life in danger.
They’re right about that, too. I was about to do a piece about that, but I’m glad I waited - the kids beat me to it. So I’ll just put a few of the “greatest hits” here, since the kids are clearly making an effort and IMO deserve our support: PWMC, #RepresentationMatters Division: MSNBC Anchors Have Given…
Well they’re perfectly fine with their book tour making a stop at Focus on the Family. Let’s not act like Mike Pence’s fucked up values are contained exclusively to him.
Pope Francis already did the concern trolling bit yesterday.
It’s worth noting that Oliver is trolling the Pence family with a delightful and innocent book about two male bunnies that want to get married.
Norm Macdonald eviscerated Bret Easton Ellis when he called Alice Munro overrated. His tweets: “Alice Munro is to literature what Lee Iacocca is to automaking. Bret Easton Ellis is to literature what Lee Iacocca is to literature.” and “It is interesting to see Alice Munro, the writer’s writer, criticized by Bret…
Bare in mind, books like Godfather and Jaws had terrible subplots that were largely superfluous to their main plots. In that in the course of adapting them they could be removed from the plot entirely and the main core of the story wasn’t effected. They only had fat that required trimming
