Games are art, and the icon is one of the earliest pieces of the game’s art that potential customers experience. If I see a terrible icon in a digital storefront, I’m more inclined to believe that the rest of the game was handled with the same lack of care and polish, even if it’s only a subconscious feeling.

Seriously. I was dreaming up ideas like that when I first discovered Battle Royale over a decade ago. If I had the slightest bit of talent, I would have happily made that game myself. The ESRB ratings (and moreso, the content descriptors) are actually very useful tools for parents who want to keep tabs on what their children are playing. The problem is, many parents couldn’t give two shits.
