100% this, dyno plotting speaks for itself. However properly selecting a forced induction method for the BRZ does correct the behavior a tidbit.

A small turbo on a 4 banger is hardly laggy though, see FiST, FoST/RS, GTI/R, Speed3 and so on. Power comes on very early and the torque is not even comparable to an NA 4 banger.
