The speed of the solve is much more dependant on knowing the methods and being able to hold the algorithms in your head than in how fast you can turn the cube. They generally use a “speedcube” not the original rubik’s brand cube. They’re lubed and specially tensioned for speed. There are at least a few dozen models to choose from.
